Hip-Hop Dance | ExtraEd - Groove to the Beat

Hip Hop Dance

Hip hop and you don’t stop.

Find the tempo. Students start by connecting with music. Using games and play to foster a relaxed social environment, students get comfortable moving in sync with the rhythm and employing basic footwork.

Rock your body. Once they learn foundational moves like two-steps and grooves, students next practice isolations—head, chest, hips—to improve body control and build towards complex moves such as popping and locking.

Dance the story. Hip hop dance is a storytelling medium. As we develop choreography and sequences, our groups learn to tell a story through movement. In time they add a personal spin: creating their own routines.

All skill levels welcome!

Our hip hop course is designed to accommodate a wide range of experience levels. All it takes is enthusiasm for dance to participate in our program. Our instructors tailor techniques and routines to students’ interests and abilities.

Appropriate to their age and dance abilities, students may be instructed in:

  • Techniques to build strength and endurance
  • Fundamentals: posture, balance, and basic footwork
  • Head, chest, and hip isolations to improve control
  • More intricate moves like waves, glides, and popping
  • Footwork combinations and transitions.
  • Advanced choreography skills, with students to exploring their creative voices
