COURSE OVERVIEW

Students apply crucial mathematical, scientific, and social emotional learning skills as they learn to play, analyze, and strategize for the game of chess. Classroom teaching is enhanced through dynamic lessons and engaging activities, enabling students to achieve specific outcomes from the Mathematics and Science & Technology Curricula. Students will strengthen their understanding of patterning, spatial reasoning, problem solving, probability, and more as they engage in individual challenges, small group work, and student-to-student games, learning from their instructor, their classmates, and themselves.
Lessons are tailored to different grade levels, learning styles, and lived experiences. This course incorporates story-telling, experimentation, and a variety of original, custom educational materials, from large interactive display boards to tournament-sized boards and activity sheets, to ensure accessibility and enjoyment for each student.
