New Programs beginning Fall 2020
Einstein once said, I get most joy in life out of music.
While students today may aspire to be more like Elon Musk than Einstein, it is true that music is an extremely enjoyable experience for the player. Music also actively engages and simulate the brain and makes you feel happy!
Extra Ed understands the relationship between music, well-being, and the development of essential skills that just happen to be particularly useful for math and science. That’s why we offer 3 programs designed to develop students’ love of singing and playing music.
Lessons are offered for 3 Skill Levels and students advance to the next Level when they complete the previous Level. No musical background is required to begin any of our Music programs. Each course is offered one time per week over 8 weeks.
Ukulele (Level 1 – Level 3) Grades 2-8
Level 1 – A beginner program where students learn basic chords, finger patterns, songs, and participate in singalongs.
Level 2 – Students progress to learning more challenging and complicated chords, finger patterns, full songs and tunes.
Level 3– Students focus on performance and being part of an ensemble where they learn to integrate their music.
Guitar (Level 1 – Level 3) Grades 2-8
Level 1- This beginners course covers all the basics: learning the numbers and names of the guitar strings, learning chords and how to change from one to the other, and learning scales. Most importantly, students learn about patience!
Level 2 – Level 2 builds on Level 1 as students learn how to use the guitar pick and learn to strum.
Level 3 - Literally next level guitar playing! Students learn to strum chords rhythmically and play in time.
Singalong (Level 1 – Level 3) Grades 2-8
Level 1– Students learn to sing together in a group accompanied by instrumental tracks.
Level 2– Parts are introduced, and students are divided into alto, soprano, tenor and bass, and begin to learn how to sing in harmony.
Level 3 – Singing their parts, students form a choir and focus on perfecting their performance over a repertoire of popular songs
An Extraordinary Education
Music builds discipline and patience.
Music builds self-esteem as students try something new and develop confidence as they master singing or playing an instrument.
